FDA suspends Sunland Inc. food facility's registration

FDA granted power to suspend registration for food, petfood facilities under Food Safety Modernization Act.

      Release Date: Comments(0)

The US Food and Drug Administration has suspended a food facility’s registration for the first time since being granted power under the Food Safety Modernization Act, according to the American Feed Industry Association. By letter dated November 26, FDA ordered the suspension of Sunland Inc.’s food facility in Portales, New Mexico, USA, effective immediately.

FDA says it determined that there is a reasonable probability that food manufactured, processed, packed or held at Sunland’s facility will cause serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals; and the Sunland facility created, caused or is otherwise responsible for such reasonable probability.

If a facility’s registration is suspended, food from that facility may not be introduced into interstate or intrastate commerce and may not be imported or offered for import into the United States. Introduction or delivery for introduction into interstate commerce of food from a suspended facility is a prohibited act, subject to injunction and criminal prosecution.
