Crown Holdings Inc., a supplier of metal packaging products, released its first sustainability report, entitled Creating an Infinitely Bright Future. The report combines industry and internal data with case studies to highlight how the company is addressing the sustainability pillars of economic, environmental and social through its innovations, operations and people.
Based upon fiscal years 2007 through 2010, the 32-page report uses the Global Reporting Initiative G3 guidelines as its framework. The contents of the report have been declared by the company at application level C, indicating that the company reported on all required profile disclosures as well as at least 10 Performance Indicators.
The company says some highlights of the report's findings include: metal is 100% recyclable, recycled at high levels and can be continuously reused with absolutely no degradation in performance or quality; during the reporting period, the company decreased its propane use by 14%, natural gas use by 8% and electricity use by 2%; and the company decreased waste-to-landfill levels by 15% over the reporting period.
