Pig ear dog chews recalled for possible Salmonella contamination

Products recalled after Washington, USA, sampling found bacteria

      Release Date: Comments(0)

Jones Natural Chews Co. of Rockford, Illinois, USA recalled 2,705 boxes of its pig ear dog chews due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The recalled pig ear chews were shipped to distributors and retailers in the following states: Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. The recall was initiated after a routine sampling by the Washington, USA, State Department of Agriculture found bacteria in some of the pig ears.

Pets with Salmonella contamination may be lethargic, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting, though the company said no illnesses have been reported yet. Consumers who purchased the recalled product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. A complete list of all recalled pig ear chews, with UPC codes and lot numbers, is available on the Food and Drug Administration's website.
