Mars Petcare may expand Arkansas pet food facility again

The expansion may increase office space and amenities, while the quality control laboratory may be remodeled.

Mars Petcare may expand and remodel its pet food facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas, USA, reported the Times Record. The expansion will increase office space and amenities, while the quality control laboratory will be remodeled. On November 16, Fort Smith Building Safety issued a remodel building permit. Mars Petcare has invested US$122 million in the Fort Smith pet food facility over the past three years. The facility has created more than 255 jobs.

Earlier expansion of Fort Smith facility by Mars Petcare

In 2016, Mars Petcare announced plans to expand its Fort Smith pet food manufacturing facility. The site, which produces Cesar and Nutro brand dog food and Sheba wet cat food, converted a can line into a tray line and added two new lines at the facility.

As part of the expansion, Mars Petcare committed to invest US$72 million, with the potential investment up to US$110 million in the Fort Smith location to create 130 new jobs over the next few years. 

Mars Petcare facility in Arkansas wins safety award

Earlier this year, Mars Petcare’s facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas received a Three Million Work Hours Safety Award from the Arkansas Department of Labor for accumulating three million work hours over six years without a lost day away from work due to a work-related injury or illness.
