A three-day Practical Short Course on Extruded Pet Foods and Treats will be presented July 9–12, 2018 at Texas A&M University by staff, industry representatives, and consultants.

The program will cover information on material handling, preconditioning, extrusion of pet foods, extruded and non-extruded treats, raw material, extrusion hardware, automation, product analysis, meat handling in pet food, drying, cooling and enrobing, food safety, pet food and treat shelf life, and trouble shooting. The program will also offer practical demonstration of pet food and treats on single and twin screw extruders. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis.

Objectives of the short course include:

  • Train production personnel in principles and characteristics of extruders and support systems for effective selection and operation.
  • Review current practices for preparation of pet foods and pet treats.
  • Demonstrate equipment in operation and familiarize attendees with practical aspects of extrusion technology for pet food manufacturing.
