Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food, a superpremium pet food company, has donated 29,989 pounds of food to help feed rescue animals in the Vero Beach, Florida area. The donation is part of the pet food company’s Fill A Bowl… Feed A Soul (FABFAS) program, a US campaign targeting one million meals for shelter pets annually.
“Chicken Soup for the Soul’s FABFAS program was created to help feed pets in need nationwide,” said Chris Mitchell, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food CEO, in a press release. “We work closely with our independent pet specialty retailers to identify rescue organizations in their area where our food can have a real impact. We believe that every pet should enjoy the benefits of premium nutrition. Healthy pets are happy pets and more readily adoptable,” said Mitchell.
The food was shipped to Bark Avenue Healthy Pets in Vero Beach, Florida, where owner Kelly Wood oversaw distribution to local shelters in need of pet food.
“We are so grateful to Chicken Soup For The Soul Pet Food for letting Bark Avenue Healthy Pets help many of the small forgotten local rescues," said Wood in a press release. "The 'Big Boys' claim to donate millions of meals but small, local rescues never see any of it. These rescues rely entirely on donations for food, medical and foster parents."
In addition to the 29,989 pound donation to the Vero Beach area, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food recently distributed more than 110,000 pounds to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and has donated approximately 1.5 million nutritious meals to pets in need across the US since beginning this initiative in June of 2016.
Other companies donating to pets in need
After recent hurricanes, other pet food companies have been sending pet food donations to shelters in need. Pawluxury, a manufacturer of dog chews and treats, has donated 20 pallets of rawhide, equaling a retail value of US$59,000, to rescue dogs affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The company, based out of Richmond, Virginia, sent these donations to Texas and Florida shelters in the heart of the destruction.
Two shelters received these rawhide donations: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions in Houston, Texas and First Coast No Homeless Pets in Jacksonville, Florida. Both shelters, despite any damage they suffered, opened their doors to many displaced pets that are being held until they can be reunited with their families. Meanwhile, the shelters are still tending to the animals they had been caring for before the storms. With this donation, over 200,000 dogs will receive a bone to chew for comfort and stress relief after riding out these natural disasters.
