Dr. Clauder’s and protein pioneer Calysta unveiled their collaboration innovation at Interzoo 2024: the world’s first dog treats featuring FeedKind Pet protein.

According to the companies, this revolutionary ingredient, produced through natural fermentation, offers a non-GMO, nutrient-dense and environmentally friendly protein source that meets the highest standards of pet nutrition.

FeedKind Pet is produced by controlled fermentation of naturally occurring microbes to deliver a high-quality, healthy and sustainable source of protein. It can be used in wet or dry food and is non-GMO, vegan, grain, gluten and soy free. The company said it serves as a comprehensive protein source created to meet the specific nutritional requirements of both dogs and cats.

The air-dried treat introduced by Dr. Clauder’s uses the FeedKind Pet protein, which offers a complete amino acid profile tailored for dogs and post-biotic properties that promote gut health. Notably, FeedKind Pet protein is also a vegan protein source, aligning with evolving consumer preferences for sustainable and ethical pet products, said the company.

Herman Sloot, vice president commercial development at Calysta, emphasized the growing demand for high-quality, environmentally conscious pet food ingredients. With FeedKind Pet protein now approved for use in pet foods in the EU, Dr. Clauder’s is pioneering a new standard for dog treats that prioritizes both taste and health while supporting environmental sustainability.

Alexander Gerards, managing partner at Dr. Clauder’s, highlighted the significance of FeedKind Pet protein in meeting market demands for novel, vegetarian and nutritious pet food ingredients. The Dr. Clauder Trainee snack featuring FeedKind Pet protein represents a true innovation that addresses consumer preferences for sustainable and health-conscious pet products.

Alan Shaw, cofounder and CEO of Calysta, underscored the win-win nature of FeedKind Pet protein, offering optimal benefits for pets, owners and the planet. The commercial launch of dog treats containing FeedKind Pet protein marks a significant milestone for Calysta and signals a new era of innovation in the pet food industry.
