PetCareRx.com, an online retailer of pet medications, petfood and pet supplies, and DogWork.com, an online pet video site, are offering the chance to win free petfood in celebration of the “work” that pets do. Through December 1, dog owners can submit a photo of their pet "working" for a chance win a one-month or a one-year supply of free petfood.

AIB International updates Consolidated Standards for Inspection
AIB International has completed an update of four of its 11 Consolidated Standards for Inspection. AIB says the update was needed as a result of regulatory developments, including the US Food and Drug Administration Food Safety Modernization Act, and other industry best practices impacting the food and petfood industry.

Petco Foundation donates to Dog and Cat Cancer Fund
The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund, a nonprofit that helps fight canine and feline cancer by providing grants to help pet owners pay for treatments, recently received a US$50,000 donation from the Petco Foundation. With this additional funding, The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund will be able to increase the number of pets it can help in 2013, as well as increase the grant amount per pet.

Nestlé invests US$15.9 million in petfood production in Argentina
Petfood manufacturer Nestlé Purina has invested CHF15 million (US$15.9 million) in its factory in Santo Tomé, Argentina, increasing its petfood production capacity by 50 percent and creating 250 jobs overall. The petfood manufacturer's investment added a third production line for dry cat and dog food, as well as two new packaging lines.

Petfood safety advocates urge Walmart to remove jerky pet treats
Petfood safety advocates sent a letter to the chairman and president of Walmart asking the company to voluntarily remove chicken jerky pet treats manufactured in China from the shelves of all Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. Since 2007, the jerky treats from China have been linked to the deaths of more than 360 dogs and one cat and 2,200 illnesses, the advocates' letter says.

Magnolia Bird Farm Inc. is recalling Raw and Roasted In-shell Peanuts and Magnolia Bird Farm Bird seed mixes that contain peanuts, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The peanuts in the mixes are among those being recalled by Sunland Inc.
