Nestle begins petfood production at new Hungary plant
Nestlé Hungária, the Hungarian unit of Swiss-based food giant Nestle, began trial production at the company's second petfood facility in Western Hungary, according to reports. The new plant will serve as the regional production base for Nestle's US-based petfood division, Purina PetCare, exporting much of the company's production to central and eastern European countries.

'Business Day' petfood safety segment to re-air in August
The petfood safety segment on "Business Day with Terry Bradshaw" will air again in select US regional markets in August. In the Huntsville, Decatur and Florence, Alabama, USA markets, the petfood safety segment will re-air on Saturday, August 6, 13, 20 and 27, at 8 a.m. on the Fox WZDX-TV channel.

Natura reaches deal in class-action petfood lawsuit
A US$2,150,000 settlement was reached with Natura Pet Products Inc., Natura Pet Food Inc., Natura Manufacturing and Peter Atkins in a class-action lawsuit regarding advertising of Natura's petfood, according to a report. The lawsuit originated after claims that the company misrepresented its petfood quality as "human-grade."

Prinova forms Animal Nutrition brand for pet industry
Prinova USA, formerly Premium Ingredients International, created a new brand for the pet industry called Prinova Animal Nutrition. The renewed focus on animal nutrition includes a flavor product manufacturing facility built in 2010 at Prinova’s corporate headquarters in Carol Stream, Illinois, USA.

Nielsen, Walmart sign US sales information agreement
The consumer purchasing analytics company Nielsen signed a cooperation agreement with Walmart to receive and analyze consumer sales information from Walmart’s US stores. The agreement, expected to be followed by similar ones with other research firms, comes after a decade of the retailing giant's ban on sharing scanning data.

Greenopia gives 'green' petfood brand ratings
Greenopia, an online directory that educates consumers on sustainable purchasing, updated its independent "green" ratings of nearly 30 petfood brands sold in the United States. Greenopia gave its highest rating, a Four-Green-Leaf Award, to just four of the petfood brands rated: Karma of Natura Pet Products, The Honest Kitchen, Wenaewe and Raw Advantage.

HABRI adds new pet organization members, supporters
The Human Animal Bond Research Initiative Foundation, Petco and Pfizer Animal Health added 12 companies and organizations to HABRI's steering committee, as well as three organizations as HABRI's association supporters. HABRI steering committee companies and organizations include the American Humane Association; American Veterinary Medical Association; Central Garden and Pet; Hartz; Hill’s Pet Nutrition; Morris Animal Foundation; Natural Balance; PetSmart; Radio Systems Corporation; Segrest Farms, funded by Allen Levey; Sergeants; and WellPet.

Nature’s Variety expands petfood Nutrition Council
Nature’s Variety added two new members to the holistic petfood company's Nutrition Council. Susan G. Wynn, DVM, of Georgia Veterinary Specialists, and Lea Stogdale, DVM, of Aesops Veterinary Care, will guide new product formulations under the newly formed Nutrition Council.

Interzoo 2012 to add exhibit space for pet supply trade show
Organizers of the Interzoo 2012 pet supply trade show announced that the number of registrants has already surpassed that of the previous show. The organizer, Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe, says it is planning to extend the exhibition area to include an extra hall, for a total area of more than 90,000 sq. meters across 11 halls.
