Dr. Tim's Pet Food Company, a maker of premium, all-natural petfood products, is redesigning its packaging and has also made its lines available through two new distribution channels. The company's new petfood bag designs are set to come out in August.

Blue Dog Bakery redesigns dog treat packaging

Blue Dog Bakery has redesigned the packaging used for its entire line of all-natural dog treats to give the packages a more modern look that better reflects the dog treats inside. The new simplified packaging, produced by Hornall Anderson, better highlights the benefits of Blue Dog Bakery's treats on the package, marked as "all-natural," "low fat" and "made in the USA," with an updated typeface that makes the packaging print easier to read.

Mondi Group to purchase petfood packaging company Nordenia

Oaktree Capital Management LLC, the majority shareholder of petfood packaging company Nordenia International, has agreed to sell Nordenia to Mondi Group. The deal, subject to approval of competition authorities, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Court rules against petfood packaging company in insurance case

A petfood packaging company that damaged cans of dog food leading to a recall cannot seek compensation for damages under its commercial general liability policy, a US appeals court ruled. The petfood packaging company, Express Packaging of OH Inc., cannot seek reimbursement from its CGL policy with American States Insurance Co. after damaging cans of dog food belonging to petfood producer Mars Inc. during a packaging process, according to a ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

MOCON establishes permeation testing laboratory network

MOCON Inc. has established a global network of MOCON-certified permeation testing laboratories to provide independent material and package performance verification, regardless of location, for petfood products. Currently, the company has certified seven laboratories in North America, Europe and Asia, at which the company aims to offer affordable permeation testing services.

Zip-Pak to open new manufacturing facility in Brazil

Zip-Pak, a manufacturer of resealable solutions and equipment for petfood packaging, will open a new manufacturing facility in São Paulo, Brazil. Zip-Pak plans to begin full production of its full line of resealable closures in early 2013.

Mondi to present new petfood packaging at Global Pouch Forum

Mondi Coatings and Consumer Packaging will present its latest petfood packaging products as the exclusive event partner of the Global Pouch Forum in June. At Global Pouch Forum, June 11-13, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, Mondi will present its pre-made stand-up pouches, reclosable plastic bags and paper-based bag solutions.

Mondi wins DuPont Packaging Award for dog food bag

Mondi Coatings and Consumer Packaging won a DuPont Packaging Award 2012 for its petfood packaging. The company won the award for its design of Interquell's Happy Dog petfood packaging, which is accentuated with stamped silver 3D lettering, matt OPP film and a high-definition flexo-printed packaging.

Packaging trends: Functional design on the petfood shelf
