Speaker Information:

Dr. Julia Guazzelli Pezzali earned her Bachelor’s in Veterinary Medicine from Brazil, her MS from Kansas State University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Guelph. After completing her Ph.D., Pezzali began her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Iowa State University, where she taught companion animal nutrition and pet food processing. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor and serves as the Director of the Pet Food Program at Kansas State University, where she contributes to teaching and research related to pet food processing technologies, and companion animal nutrition and metabolism. The overall goal of her research program is to employ both basic and applied methodologies to explore new ingredients, processing techniques, and dietary strategies to assist the industry in developing sustainable products that promote the overall health and well-being of companion animals.

Dr. Gail Kuhlman is a retired Board-Certified Animal Nutritionist and Pet Food Expert with over 35 years in the pet food industry. She holds a Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Iowa State University and a B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University. As Owner and CEO of GXK Consulting LLC, based in Summerville, South Carolina, Dr. Kuhlman provides expert guidance in formulation, nutrition, and sustainability to pet food manufacturers and ingredient suppliers. Before founding her consulting business, she held senior technical and leadership roles at Mars Petcare, Procter & Gamble Petcare, The Iams Company, Royal Canin, and Ralston Purina. A recognized leader in innovation and sustainability, Dr. Kuhlman is also dedicated to mentorship and advancing women in the industry. She is Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of Women in Pet Food Leadership and a recipient of both the AFIA Friend of Pet Food Award and the Corbin Award.
