PetSmart and PetSmart Charities are hosting a High Five! party in PetSmart stores in North America to celebrate the adoption of 5 million pets through the in-store adoption program since 1994.

The event, taking place Saturday, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., celebrates the June 2 adoption of the program's 5 millionth pet, Dodge, a 5-year-old black and white Siberian Husky adopted in Boynton Beach, Florida, USA. During the event, pet trainers will be on hand to teach pets how to "high five" with their pet parents for a photo. All leashed and vaccinated pets are welcome to attend the event.

In addition to the in-store High Five! party, PetSmart Charities has teamed up with actor Josh Duhamel to launch the "High-Five for Pet Adoption" campaign, which aims to increase awareness about the importance of pet adoption to save millions more pets. The "High-Five for Pet Adoption" campaign aims to raise US$250,000 to help save 10,000 homeless pets.

“Pet adoption changed my life when we were looking to find a companion for our 7-year-old Dachshund, Zoe. Soon after adopting Meatloaf, I learned that these pets are just grateful for the love you have to give them,” said Duhamel. “I’m shocked by the statistics of the homeless pet problem. I applaud PetSmart Charities for its achievement of saving 5 million pets, and I’m honored to work with them to encourage everyone to bring the joy of an adopted pet into their lives and help save millions more pets.”
