Bravo! recalls pig ear chew pet treats for Salmonella contamination
Bravo! issued a voluntary recall for select boxes of Bravo! pig ears chews because of the potential for Salmonella contamination. The recalled Bravo! pig ears were distributed to retailers on the East and West Coasts of the US between January 1 and February 28.

GA Pet Food Partners moves into new UK petfood distribution facility
GA Pet Food Partners will move into a new 200,000-square-foot petfood distribution center near Chorley, Lancashire, UK, in June 2011. The distribution facility has a capacity for 32,000 pallet spaces, which the company says means that all of its finished petfood will now be at the same facility.

A California, USA, petfood company issued a voluntary recall of its raw cat food because the food may be contaminated with Salmonella. Primal Pet Foods of San Mateo, California, USA recalled its Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula, 4-pound chicken and salmon nuggets (UPC# 8 95135 00025 0) with a "best by" date code of 043112-17.

P&G may look to sell Iams, Eukanuba petfood brands, article says
Procter & Gamble recently sold its Pringles brand and may be looking to sell off other brands in its portfolio, including its Iams and Eukanuba brand petfoods, according to an article from nasdaq.com. The Nasdaq article says that P&G's Iams and Eukanuba brands together contribute US$1.6 billion to P&G's total sales, which exceed US$80 billion, and may be one reason the company would sell its petfood brands.

European Union Regulation 767/2009 on placing on the market and use of animal feeds sets out basic rules for the way information about petfood should be provided to the consumer. Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc. recently released survey results about the pet vendor and retail markets during the first quarter of 2011. The pet supplier retail survey found that through the first quarter of 2011, sales were in-line with expectations, with 38% of retailers reporting better-than-expected sales and 26% reporting sales short of expectations.

Pedigree set to launch Dental Care Month for dogs in June
Petfood brand Pedigree (Mars) will launch its 2011 Dental Care Month campaign in June, to raise awareness of oral health for dogs. Figures show that a very high proportion of dogs suffer from gum disease and many owners are unaware that dogs need regular dental care, according to Pedigree.
