Meow Mix cat food brand is looking for cat owners to enter the âMeow for Mealtimeâ contest, in which pet owners can create their own version of the Meow Mix jingle with their cat for the chance to win US$10,000 plus a lifetime supply of Meow Mix cat food. Cat owners can enter the contest on the companyâs Facebook page or website through June 9.

Rural pet owners, couples with no kids spend more on petfood, pet supplies
Pet owners ages 55 to 64 and couples without children are most likely to pamper their pets, compared to those pets owned by single pet owners and single parents, according to a new analysis by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In general, American pet owners spend about US$500 on average, about 1 percent of their annual pet budget.

Pioneer Natural Pet Foods is offering a new resource for private-label co-packing, thanks to the purchase of the Pied Piper facility in Hamlin, Texas, USA, by new ownership. Pioneer Pet Foods upgraded the 148,000-square-foot facility and expanded its capacity for dry kibble dog and cat foods as well as baked and extruded biscuits.

Calorie content declarations on petfood labels: Whatâs the best method?
As previously reported, recent amendments to the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Model Regulations for Pet Food and Specialty Pet Food will require calorie content statements on all dog and cat food labels within the next few years (the exact time frame for compliance is still to be determined). There currently are two AAFCO-accepted methods upon which to determine and report metabolizable energy (ME).

According to Packaged Factsâ US Pet Market Outlook, 2012â2013, despite any money-saving tradeoffs pet owners may be making, premium products remain a fact of life in the US pet market, as do premium product shoppers. As of 2010, US households earning US$70,000 or more account for 51% of the aggregate pet market expenditure and Packaged Facts believes these consumers are footing the lionâs share of the bill for premium pet products.

Nutraceutical treats bring tripled growth for Lincoln Bark
In 2010, Bobbye Cochran started Lincoln Bark in an effort to create healthy treats to entice her sick dog, Sophie, to eat again. Sophieâs diagnosis with Addisonâs disease drove her to lose her appetite, along with much of her fur. After Cochran baked the first batch of (what would become) Sweet Little Butterpup dog treats and found that Sophie and the neighborhood dogs couldnât get enough, she trademarked the recipe and has been growing the Lincoln Bark business ever since.

New Del Monte Meow Mix Facebook app awards cash prizes to users daily
Petfood maker Del Monte Foods recently launched a Facebook application for its Meow Mix cat food brand. The app allows users to upload a photo of their cat, map out facial features and then watch the cat perform a rendition of the Meow Mix jingle.

Hill's forms petfood distribution network to aid pets during emergencies
Hill's Pet Nutrition has established a Disaster Relief Network through the Hill's Food, Shelter & Love program, which will enable Hill's to quickly deploy petfood resources in case of an emergency. The Network consists of nearly 100 participating shelters across the US that Hill's can coordinate with to distribute emergency food supplies to pets in need.
