Blue Buffalo is launching a promotional campaign ahead of Tax Day that lets dog owners "claim" their pet for a chance to receive a $1,000 credit toward the brand's Love Made Fresh dog food line.
Owned by General Mills, the brand announced the Love Made Fresh Dog Tax Credit on March 24. Dog owners can visit BlueBuffaloDogTaxCredit.com before April 15 to enter their dog as a "dog-pendent" for a chance at the credit, which can be applied toward Love Made Fresh products including food, treats and toys. The promotion is not affiliated with the IRS.
The campaign comes as Google searches for pet-related tax deductions rose 40% from 2024 to 2025, according to the company. Blue Buffalo also cited Harris Poll data indicating 82% of pet owners consider their pets to be family members.
"Every tax season, we see pet parents asking questions about how to claim their dog on their taxes, like children, and since that's not an option, we are stepping in to give credit for everyone who shows their four-legged family member unconditional love every day," said Nicole Ayers, business unit director of growth accelerators for North America Pet at General Mills. "The Love Made Fresh Dog Tax Credit is our way of helping pet parents continue loving and feeding their dog just like family."
The Love Made Fresh line includes a Scoop & Serve Tub, Slice & Serve Rolls and Tender Meatball Recipes. Products are available at Walmart, Target, Kroger, Chewy, Meijer and other grocery retailers.
