The Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA) is tackling pet obesity in the United Kingdom with a new program called the " Family Pet Pledge ."
When pet owners sign the pledge, they're committing themselves to taking care of their pet's health by pledging "not to feed (their pet) human food as snacks," and "to work hard at giving (their pet) a healthy lifestyle," among other promises in the pledge.
The PFMA is starting this initiative in response to a
growing number of pets becoming overweight or obese. A report
released earlier this year by PFMA found that the majority of
pet owners don't believe their pets are overweight despite the
fact that one in three pets are now overweight.
