Wenger and Extru-Tech have launched EXPRO AI, an artificial intelligence-powered extrusion process optimization software developed with TwinThread technology.
The software uses AI predictive modeling to analyze historical and real-time process and quality data, identifying relationships between critical data points, specifications, and operational anomalies to help manufacturers predict product quality outcomes and determine optimal process setpoints.
EXPRO AI operates through a real-time digital twin dashboard that provides situational awareness for operators and managers. The system utilizes data from Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices, historians, and manufacturing execution systems (MES) to inform process decisions.

The software features customized optimization models tailored to individual recipes and production lines that predict production events. It operates continuously as what the companies describe as an "electronic subject matter expert" that prescribes optimal process parameters.
The system is designed for continuous manufacturing processes and aims to improve product yield and quality by reducing process variability.
"EXPRO AI represents a pivotal advancement in extrusion technology," said Scott Krebs, president of the Wenger Group. "By leveraging our process expertise and AI based modeling, our clients are able to achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and product consistency. This technology transforms extrusion processes, making them smarter, more adaptive, and highly efficient."
Both Wenger and Extru-Tech are global suppliers of extrusion processing technologies to the pet food industry.
