Vets remind owners of safe handling after recent petfood recalls for Salmonella
Veterinarians from BluePearl Veterinary Partners want to ensure pet owners feed safe food to their pets in the wake of a number of petfood recalls. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s website, there have been six petfood recalls due to Salmonella since March, affecting several brands.

Recall: Purina ONE Beyond White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult dry dog food
Nestlé Purina PetCare is recalling one production run of Purina ONE Beyond White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult dry dog food because a bag of the petfood was found to contain Salmonella. The recall applies to 3.5-lb. bags of Purina ONE Beyond White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult dry dog food, marked with best-by date of October 2014, production code: 31071083 and UPC code: 17800 12679.

Recall: Dogswell, Catswell brand jerky treats with chicken, duck
Arthur Dogswell LLC has issued recall for select Dogswell and Catswell brand jerky treats made with chicken or duck, after testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets found trace amounts of an antibiotic during a routine product sampling. Treat products affected by the recall have a "Best Before" date marked on or before January 28, 2015.

Petfood delivery website Petflow.com has created a new website that alerts pet owners if their pet's dog or cat food brand is recalled for safety concerns. The website, http://recalls.petflow.com/, lets consumers enter their email address and select up to six petfood brands they would like to receive alerts for.

Robert Abady Dog and Cat Food Corporation of New York, USA, is voluntarily recalling two “limited specialty products” of frozen dog food due to Salmonella contamination. The petfood recall applies to 3-pound sizes of the following products: Abady Frozen High Stress/High Performance Dog Food.

Hartz Mountain Corporation has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of Wardley Betta fish food because products in that lot have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall was initiated after Salmonella was detected in a lot of the fish food during routine microbial product testing.
