IQI Trusted Petfood Ingredients and Spanish biotech company Eggnovo have entered into a partnership to distribute Ovopet, a functional eggshell membrane (ESM) ingredient, to the North American pet food market. The ingredient, made from upcycled eggshells, is promoted as a science-backed solution supporting joint, skin, coat, and gut health in pets.

According to IQI, Ovopet is a high-purity, undenatured ESM powder that contains type I, V, and X collagen along with a natural matrix of hyaluronic acid, elastin, chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine. The ingredient is more than 90% protein, shelf-stable for 48 months, and can be incorporated into capsules, tablets, dry and wet food and treats.

“Study has shown that Ovopet is a safe and highly effective ingredient for relieving pain and reducing inflammation,” according to IQI, which adds that supplementation with ESM may improve mobility and physical function in dogs while also supporting skin and gastrointestinal health.

Beyond its functional benefits, the eggshell-derived ingredient aligns with sustainability goals. Eggnovo’s patented, chemical-free extraction method upcycles eggshells from the human food supply into a vegetarian, natural ingredient suitable for pet food formulations targeting health-conscious and environmentally focused consumers.
