US cat, dog food exports at US$1.7 billion in 2020

Cat and dog food was the third most valuable category of United States animal food industry exports in 2020.

Cat and dog food was the third most valuable category of United States animal food industry exports in 2020. The American Feed Industry Association created an infographic displaying that data, along with more U.S. Census Bureau Data summarizing 2020 exports. Cat and dog food exports from the U.S. reached US$1.7 billion last year. By value, soybean meal and dried distillers grains both exceeded pet food at US$3.7 billion and US$2.3 billion respectively. Animal feed preparations were at US$1.6 billion in fourth place, followed by forage products in fifth at US$1.5 billion. However, pet food did not appear on the top five exports by volume, which were:

  1. dried distillers grains,
  2. soybean meal,
  3. forage products
  4. corn gluten meal
  5. animal free preparations

The top export destinations for us animal food products based on value were:
