The company filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy on March 28. The closing follows the death of founder Neil Padron in January.

Petland Discounts closed all of its stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, reported Pet Business. The company filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy on March 28. The closing follows the death of founder Neil Padron in January. At Petland Discount’s height, the pet specialty retail outlet operated 120 locations.

UK Purina pet food canning line closure due to pouches

Nestle Purina PetCare plans to close the canning line of one of their facilities in the United Kingdom, reported the Wisbech Standard. The pet food manufacturing plant is in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England. The plant employs more than 600 people, and it’s unknown if any will lose their jobs. Purina purchased the facility in 1998. It now produces brands including Felix, Winalot, Gourmet, Bakers and Friskies.

Petco closing Drs. Foster and Smith online pet supplier

On February 12, Petco will permanently close all operations of Drs. Foster and Smith, a catalog and online pet supply retailer, with the exception of its live aquaria business, reported CBS-affiliate WSAW. The closure will affect 289 employees, who have all been informed and whose employment will end during the next 60 to 120 days. Drs. Foster and Smith is based in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, USA.

Purina may cut jobs and close pet food factory in France

Nestle Purina PetCare may reduce the number of employees at several facilities in France, reported Reuters. Purina may cut approximately 200 jobs at the Marconnelle, Montfort, Aubigny and Veauche plants, out of a total 1,800 jobs. What’s more, the pet food company may sell its Quimperle plant in Brittany where 123 people are employed. The revelations about potential job losses and pet food plant closure came after discussions between Purina and trade unions.
