Countries in Asia continue to lead global egg production

China, the world’s largest egg producing country, makes up almost 50% of global egg production.

After steady increases from 2012-19, global shell egg production plateaued from 2020-21 and dropped slightly in 2022 to just under 87 million metric tons (MT), according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) (Figure 1).
