The big 3 shrink, US turkey industry less concentrated

Reduced slaughter by Butterball, Jennie-O Turkey Store and Cargill Protein results in the U.S. turkey industry having the lowest HHI calculation since 2000.

The three largest turkey processors in the U.S. slaughtered an estimated 41.7% of the live pounds of turkey processed in the U.S. in 2024. This is the lowest percentage of the industry’s total for these three companies since 2000. The big three’s share of total turkey industry slaughter peaked in 2009 at 56.8% but has been steadily declining since then.
