Insect ingredient maker gathered value chain stakeholders to discuss functional nutrition for sensitive pets.

Innovafeed hosted its first Pet Day on April 15 at its industrial production facility in Nesle, northern France, bringing together manufacturers, nutritionists, brands, retailers, scientists and sustainability experts from across Europe and the U.S.

The event centered on the theme "Ingredients with Benefits in Action — Caring for Sensitive Pets through Functional Diets: From Pet Parent Insight to Proven Benefits," with sessions covering market trends, nutritional science, sustainability and functional health.

Expert contributors from Pet Sustainability Coalition, dsm-firmenich, Kemin Industries, Ambiotis, Werner Tiernahrung, Visan and Grub Club participated in the program.

Presentations included an overview of animal nutrition and insect-based ingredients by Laurence Yaguiyan-Colliard, a European specialist in veterinary clinical nutrition and senior lecturer at the National Veterinary School of Maison Alfort, and a look at sustainability-driven trends in the sensitive pet food market by Hannah Hintz, senior sustainability analyst at Pet Sustainability Coalition. A customer spotlight featured Paul Giesebrecht of Werner Tiernahrung discussing Hilucia Oil for Pets.

Session 2 addressed functional nutrition and health. Laure Saias, R&D business developer manager at Ambiotis, presented on Hilucia™ Protein for Pets as a functional ingredient for inflammation resolution. A panel discussion followed, featuring Hugh Petit, co-founder and COO of Grub Club; Erik Denayer, country manager France at Visan; Jean-François Laudouze, European sales director for pet food at dsm-firmenich; and Cristina Murcia, senior technical service manager at Kemin Pet Food & Rendering.

Discussions throughout the day examined the role of insect-based ingredients in supporting digestive health, improving performance and contributing to more sustainable pet food systems. Scientific collaborations and R&D results were also presented.
