Czech dog food manufacturer Ibero Natural is expanding into additional European markets with its premium pet food made using fresh meat, including pork from Iberian dark pigs.
“We are a super premium brand of dog food, hypoallergenic and made with the use of 100% natural and fresh ingredients sourced from farmers,” the company said in a statement to Petfood Industry. “Ibero Natural distinguishes itself by a very high meat content in our products. We use about 1.5 kilograms [or 3.3 pounds] of fresh meat to produce 1 kilogram of pet food. In our manufacturing processes, we don’t use gelatin, we don’t add colorants, and we make sure to include only natural ingredients that we want to serve to our pets.”
In addition to Iberian pork, Ibero Natural also uses lamb meat in its formulas.
“Surely you have already tasted the Spanish delicacy Jamón Ibérico," the company said. "This excellent ham is made from the meat of Iberian dark pigs. And it is this meat, rich in protein, B vitamins, minerals such as iron and potassium, that is used for production of Ibero Natural kibble."
Ibero Natural products are currently sold in the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, France and Germany, among other countries, with the brand seeking further expansion throughout Europe.
“We are making efforts to expand our presence, entering new markets across Europe,” the company stated.
The brand recently added a grain-free product featuring sweet potatoes, and plans to launch a semi-moist pet food next. Ibero Natural is owned by Czech firm TV Probbe s.r.o., headquartered in Prague.
Latvian brand launches ice cream for dogs
Also in Europe, Latvia’s Tērvete Food has launched what it says is the first ice cream for dogs available in the Baltic States.
“The idea seemed extravagant to many people, if I may say so, but it fits right in with the fact that we want something new and unprecedented,” said Mārtiņš Muižnieks, chairman of the board at Tērvete Food, in an interview with public broadcaster LSM. “The love for dogs and pets has grown [among Latvian consumers] and it's very nice.”
The sugar-free product is being marketed under the company’s new Joy for Tails brand, separate from its human ice cream brand, Druva. Tērvete developed the pet-safe treat in cooperation with the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies.
The product will be sold in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, with plans to grow its reach to additional export markets.
“We are now very actively focusing not only on the Baltic market, but also on the export market in general,” said Evita Štrausa, a board member at Tērvete Food. She noted the company’s promotional activities include participation in the May 2025 Zoomark pet food trade show in Bologna, Italy.
In 2024, Tērvete Food exported a record €26 million (US$29.5 million) worth of ice cream, with major foreign markets including Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. The company developed its Joy for Tails product using support from the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Latvian Food Industry Competence Center project.
