The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) has released its State of Sustainability in the Pet Industry 2025 Edition, a report examining the pet industry's environmental and social progress. The World Pet Association funded the report through a grant.

The report combines insights from PSC's Benchmark Assessment, PSC Accredited member data, consumer research from Nextin and BBMG, and publicly available industry information.

"Despite economic pressures and a complex regulatory landscape, the message from leading companies is clear: sustainability is a growth strategy," said Jim Lamancusa, CEO of PSC. "We created this report to illuminate the path ahead. My hope is that it not only helps pet industry leaders understand the progress we are making together, but also inspires more companies to take the next step on their own sustainability journey."

The report found that 84% of pet owners believe companies should act on climate change, and they are more likely to purchase environmentally friendly products. The report also notes that sustainability contributes to operational efficiency, risk mitigation, talent attraction and investor confidence.

Only 40% of companies report on Scope 3 emissions, according to the report, despite value chain emissions accounting for over 90% of most companies' environmental footprint.

The report includes consumer sentiment data, innovation trends, risk reduction strategies and practices for implementing sustainability across the value chain.
