Nutro pet food brand celebrates 100 years

Part of the Mars family of brands, the natural pet food manufacturer marks the milestone with a new product guarantee and sustainability initiatives.

Nutro 700 Dog Years

Nutro, a Mars Pet Nutrition brand, is marking its 100th anniversary or 700 dog years in 2026. The company, which began as a family-owned business, has been producing natural dog and cat food since 1926.

To commemorate the centennial, Nutro launched the Natural Choice Recipes Sensitive Skin & Stomach Guarantee. The brand was acquired by Mars in 2007.

"Since NUTRO joined the Mars family in 2007, it has continued to raise the bar for ingredient transparency and sustainability in the pet food industry," said Elizabeth Barrett, vice president of NUTRO & GREENIES, Mars Pet Nutrition North America. "We're proud to celebrate this momentous occasion and look forward to carrying the brand's legacy into the future."

The company said it sources ingredients through partnerships with farmers and suppliers, focusing on protein, vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Nutro processes ingredients for treats, toppers and complete meals.

Through its Greater Ground program, Nutro works with farmers in its supply network on soil health practices. The company states the program aims to promote sustainable agriculture methods for ingredient production.

According to Petfood Industry's Top Pet Food Companies, Mars Petcare produces Royal Canin, PEDIGREE, Nutro and SHEBA pet brands. The privately-held, family-owned US$55 billion company offers a diverse and expanding portfolio of leading pet care products and veterinary services to support pets all around the world.
