Annamaet Petfoods Inc. has renamed its longtime Option dog food formula to Annamaet Medium & Large Breed Salmon.
The formula itself is not changing. Medium & Large Breed Salmon continues to be made in the U.S. with salmon and free-range, grass-fed lamb, along with grains, and is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including growth of large-size dogs weighing 70 pounds or more as adults.
The company said the name change is meant to make it easier for pet owners and industry professionals to identify the formula's key attributes. The product is designed for medium and large breed dogs and serves as an alternative to Annamaet's chicken-based formulas. It is also corn-, wheat- and soy-free.
"Option has been an important part of the Annamaet family for more than 30 years, and we're proud of the role it has played for generations of dogs," said Rob Downey, founder and CEO of Annamaet Petfoods. "The new name, Medium & Large Breed Salmon, does a better job of telling pet parents exactly what is in the bag and which dogs the formula was designed to serve. Most importantly, the food inside the bag remains the same."
Annamaet originally formulated Option in 1995 as an alternative to its chicken-based formulas. The company said the formula has since become one of the company's most popular diets, particularly among dogs with food sensitivities.
