Today’s pet food packaging: adaptable, sustainable, convenient

The industry and consumers are both demanding packaging meet more needs than ever before.

Pet food packaging has always been at the forefront of some of the industry’s most important needs: Food safety, consumer communication, branding and labeling have all been laid at packaging’s doorstep. However, these days packaging is being asked to do all that and more.

“We are asked to support a broader mix of package sizes and formats, particularly eco-friendly bags and emerging pouch formats,” said Harm Geurs, director of market strategy, and Braden Beam, director of sales-aftermarket upgrades, for BW Packaging. “Flexible, highly automated packaging lines to efficiently manage SKUs, packaging formats and production changes with human-machine interfaces (HMIs) offering quick onboarding and operator training on the machines are required.”
