The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), in partnership with rePurpose Global, announced the return of Plastic Recovery July, an industry-wide initiative that helps pet companies fund verified plastic recovery projects around the world.
The campaign brings together pet brands, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and retailers to support the recovery of plastic waste that would otherwise pollute communities, waterways and ecosystems.
The initiative follows an inaugural campaign in 2025, when 14 companies across the pet industry collectively funded the recovery of more than 92,000 pounds of plastic waste through projects in Kenya, India and Indonesia. Those efforts also supported more than 1,070 waste workers through recovery and recycling programs while helping protect coral reefs, mangrove forests and ecosystems in the Himalayan foothills. More than 800 women were supported through workforce and leadership opportunities connected to local recovery systems.
“The first year of Plastic Recovery July showed what becomes possible when companies across the pet industry align around shared action,” the Pet Sustainability Coalition said. “Collective investment creates measurable impact at a scale individual companies cannot achieve alone.”
This year's campaign will continue supporting recovery efforts through rePurpose Global's Verified Plastic Recovery (VPR) framework, which tracks and verifies recovered plastic through collection and end-of-life processing systems.
Funds raised through Plastic Recovery July will support one of rePurpose Global's 13 active projects spanning six countries across South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, including efforts to protect whale breeding grounds on Colombia's Pacific coast, safeguard coral ecosystems in Bali and support women-led waste collection networks in India.
Each project operates through rePurpose's VPR framework, which tracks recovered plastic and ties it to paid work for waste workers. Specific project allocation will be shared following the campaign.
Plastic Recovery July is intended to give companies an action they can take now while broader packaging transitions continue across the industry.
"Plastic Recovery July proves that meaningful impact starts with taking action and amplifies when we act collectively," said Manika Doshi, CEO of rePurpose Global. "Fourteen companies came together last year and recovered 92,000 pounds of plastic. We're proud to partner with PSC to make verified plastic recovery accessible to every company that's ready."
To date, rePurpose Global has helped recover more than 100 million pounds of plastic waste globally through its recovery and recycling initiatives.
The initiative is supported by the World Pet Association (WPA), which is underwriting an expansion of the program with a goal of recovering 50,000 pounds of plastic.
Early supporters for the 2026 campaign include Earth Animal, Printpack, Ahlstrom, Bimini Pet Health, Cloud Star, InClover, Petcurean Pet Nutrition, Polkadog, Material Motion, Morris Packaging and Royal Canin.
Companies that participate in Plastic Recovery July receive verified recovery impact data along with communication assets and coalition-wide visibility. Participation levels range from Ally ($1,000) to Torchbearer ($10,000), and PSC members can apply one member credit toward participation while supplies last.
