In 2015, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) began a project to modernize pet food labels and regulations. After eight years of work, the finalized Pet Food Label Modernization (PFLM) plan came out in 2023 with a stated six-year implementation period based on the date of the availability of the printed version of the 2024 Official Publication.
