The FDA and the California Department of Public Health are investigating salmonella contamination in pistachio products sold by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc. As of now, a connection has not been made between the outbreak and any petfood or pet treats containing pistachios.
The company has stopped distributing the processed pistachios and is issuing a voluntary recall of about 1 million pounds of its products.
The contamination involves multiple strains of salmonella .
The FDA is working closely with the pistachio industry and recommends consumers avoid eating pistachio products until further information is available about the scope of affected products.
