Corbion, an Amsterdam-based sustainable ingredients company, has received regulatory approvals from China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) for its algae-derived omega-3 DHA products, opening access to China's expanding animal nutrition market. The company also announced executive committee restructuring to enhance operational efficiency.
The regulatory approvals cover Corbion's AlgaPrime DHA and AlgaVia DHA products, both algae-derived omega-3 solutions used in pet food, aquaculture and livestock applications. The products are manufactured through controlled fermentation using sugar cane and renewable energy, reducing reliance on marine resources.
"China is an important and fast-growing market for algae-derived omega-3 solutions in both food and feed," said Tim Rutten, vice president Nutrition & Pharma at Corbion. "With these registrations and licenses in place, we can now offer Chinese customers and partners our proven ingredients that align with their focus on quality, safety and sustainability."
Corbion's algae-based omega-3 products are available in powder, liquid suspension and oil formats. The company produces these ingredients on land from microalgae, positioning them as sustainable alternatives to marine-derived omega-3 sources for pet food manufacturers seeking to enhance omega-3 profiles in their formulations.
Executive team restructuring
Concurrent with the China market development, Corbion announced changes to its executive committee structure, reducing it to six members it said to improve decision-making speed and collaboration. The restructuring includes three key appointments effective this summer and fall.
Oli Arnason joins as chief integrated supply chain officer on July 15, coming from Friesland Campina where he served as global manufacturing director. His role will focus on end-to-end supply chain, procurement, and operations management across the organization.
Yves Boland, PhD, will become chief technology officer effective September 1, bringing fermentation technology expertise from his previous role as vice president of Technical Services & Business Development at Tate & Lyle.
Ruud Peerbooms, previously president of Health and Nutrition, has assumed the role of chief commercial officer as of July 1, taking responsibility for all commercial activities after more than a decade with Corbion.
"Their combined expertise will be key as we strive to not only deliver innovative sustainable solutions and exceptional service to our customers but also elevate our company performance and maximize shareholder returns," said CEO Olivier Rigaud.
The leadership changes include the departure of Jacqueline van Lemmen as chief operations officer after serving on the executive committee since 2017.
