The US Food and Drug Administration released the Foreign Supplier Verification Program and Third-Party Certification proposed rules, as required under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
These new proposed rules include:
Proposed Rule on Food Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals
Proposed Rule on Accreditation of Third-Party Auditors/Certification Bodies to Conduct Food Safety Audits and to Issue Certifications
The rules can be viewed on FDA's website and also in the Federal Register on July 29. Information on the written rules, as well as pertinent additional information like notices, fact sheets and Q-and-A can be found. Both rules have a 120-day comment period.
