Nestle Purina PetCare may reduce the number of employees at several facilities in France, reported Reuters. Purina may cut approximately 200 jobs at the Marconnelle, Montfort, Aubigny and Veauche plants, out of a total 1,800 jobs. What’s more, the pet food company may sell its Quimperle plant in Brittany where 123 people are employed. The revelations about potential job losses and pet food plant closure came after discussions between Purina and trade unions.

Nestle’s activities in France may be related to the pressure it faces from Third Point, a hedge fund run by activist investor Daniel Loeb. Third Point and Loeb have been pushing Nestle to renovate its business strategy, reported Reuters. Third Point invested approximately US$3 billion in Nestle in 2017. In July 2018, Loeb called for Nestle to restructure into three unit, beverages, nutrition and grocery, and to sell off assets that didn’t fit in those categories. Third Point started a website, www.Nestlenow.com, to call for Nestle to reorganize.
