The pet food industry’s beneficial effects on dogs, cats, other pets and their owners may most excite employees about their jobs. In a survey, 60% of respondents said they would describe that aspect of their work with family or friends, if they wished to explain why a career in the pet food industry excited them. Another 43% of pet food industry respondents responded that industry growth and innovation most excited them. Coworkers most excited 27%, while 13% chose other options.

Human, livestock and pet food industry employees shared their attitudes toward their jobs in a survey conducted by executive search firm Kincannon Reed earlier in 2020, in partnership with WATT Global Media, parent company of Petfood Industry. Out of 732 respondents, 30 were currently employed by pet food producers and suppliers.

Why pet food industry employees like their jobs

These responses came from current dog, cat and other pet food industry employees:

“We develop products that make pets healthier and live much longer. They crave the products we offer, and it's exciting to believe that the products may someday be offered for people to make them healthier and be able to live longer, too.”

“Pets are fun, we get to help other people enjoy and show love to their pets through food.”

“The excitement comes from the people I work with and the energy of an enthusiastic consumer base.”

“The close-knit feeling amongst those of us who work in the industry. Overall, the business takes care of those that work hard and push the envelope when it comes to ideation and communication. Every sale in the pet food world is an emotional sale. People regard their pets in a way similar to that of their children and as a result, selling can be more fun.”
