According to investment bank Cascadia Capital estimates reported in Petfood Industry (July 11, 2025), private label pet care dollar sales increased by 1.7% year-over-year in 2024, with unit sales rising 3.5% during the same period. In contrast, national pet food brands posted a 1.0% dollar sales increase and a 0.6% decline in unit sales.
MRI-Simmons summer 2025 survey data show private label’s draw being highest for dog treats, at 19% of category shoppers. Even so, other food/treat categories posted larger percentage point gains in shopper draw between 2021 and 2025: private label dry dog food (from 9% to 11%), dry cat food (from 7% to 9%) and cat treats (from 3% to 5%). Pet owners, therefore, are increasingly buying store brands across pet food/treat categories.
