Looking around at what’s new in the pet market, nothing illustrates the raising of the bar on pet health and wellness more than the current generation of high-tech pet products. Nielsen (NIQ) estimates presented at Global Pet Expo 2026 project the global pet technology sector to grow from US$19.1 billion in 2026 to US$52 billion by 2035, for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%. The U.S. would account for approximately one-third of that market.
Even formerly basic pet durable products — such as pet food/water bowls and cat litter/boxes — have expanded their functionality to not only include new pet health and wellness capabilities, but incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) and interface with emerging pet health care and monitoring systems. In tandem with the overall industry, key trends within pet tech include products designed for cats and hardware product plus service systems that combine with subscriptions beyond cellular data plans.
