  • DASH uses sous vide cooking at 165 degrees instead of high-heat processing common in pet food industry
  • Revenue grew 130% since separating from ButcherBox in June 2025
  • Funding will support expansion of paid acquisition, subscription scaling, and R&D for new seafood and turkey formulations

DASH Dog Food, the fresh-frozen dog food brand founded by former ButcherBox vice president of operations Bobby Quirk, announced it closed an oversubscribed $1.5 million seed round led by Voltage Ventures.

Western Technology Investment also participated, along with individual investors from the direct-to-consumer protein, cold-chain logistics and retail sectors. Marissa Bertorelli, general partner at Voltage Ventures, and Mike Salguero, founder and CEO of ButcherBox, will join the DASH board of directors.

The company said it will use the funding to expand paid acquisition, scale its subscription business and fund research and development for new formulations.

'Table-grade' nutrition

DASH sources humanely raised, 100% grass-fed beef and certified organic chicken, and its recipes contain no added antibiotics or hormones and include pre- and postbiotics. The company cooks each batch sous vide at 165 degrees rather than using the high-heat processing common in the category.

"Every dog owner is making a decision on behalf of an animal who can't speak for themselves," Quirk said. "Table-grade is how we make that decision easier. Plenty of our customers were already cooking for their dogs. We take that time and work off their plates by doing the sourcing, nutrition balancing and batch cooking for them. This round lets us do it across more recipes and more households."

Separation from ButcherBox

DASH separated from ButcherBox in June 2025 and has seen revenue grow 130% since, the company said. It discontinued its dry food line following a rebrand in June to focus solely on fresh-frozen products.

The company plans to roll out a redesigned package this season and add seafood and turkey to a lineup that has consisted of beef and chicken since launch. Both recipes are sourced from suppliers the DASH team worked with previously at ButcherBox and were developed based on customer feedback. DASH is allocating about 10% of the round to research and development on the new formulations.

"We partner with founders building category-defining animal health companies, and we believe the next decade of animal health will be decided in the bowl as much as in the clinic," Bertorelli said. "Nutrition is the most repeated decision in a dog's life, twice a day for a decade or more, and it is the decision owners have the least visibility into. DASH is a rare team with the supply chain expertise to change what goes in that bowl. They're exactly the kind of company we built Voltage to back, and we're glad to be invested from the start."

DASH is available by subscription at DashDogFood.com, with meal plans tailored to a dog's size, age and dietary needs.
