Indian pet food producer Drools has announced it is expanding its activities into the fresh pet food segment. With this in mind, the company has teamed up with Tetra Pak to offer its products in Tetra Recart retortable packaging.

"With our entry into the fresh pet food segment, in strategic collaboration with Tetra Pak, we are introducing a new category that redefines how pet nutrition is produced, delivered, and experienced in India," Drools said in a statement.

The Indian business said that it is the first pet food brand in Asia to introduce fresh pet food in this type of packaging.

"Backed by advanced processing and packaging capabilities, this launch reflects a larger shift in consumer expectations—where pet parents are increasingly seeking high-quality, transparent, and 'home-style' nutrition for their pets," said the pet food producer.

At the same time, the Indian company is also intensifying efforts to expand its foothold in various foreign markets. Most recently, Drools extended its presence to the UAE market, teaming up with local company Sweet Garden.

"We're excited to partner with Sweet Garden LLC (Aal Mir) as we expand into the UAE market, with a strong focus on growing our presence in Modern Trade," the pet food maker said. "With a legacy dating back to 1989, Sweet Garden LLC has established itself as a leading FMCG distributor in the region, backed by a strong network and extensive reach across key retail channels."

Drools said that, as the UAE's pet care market continues to expand, the Indian business is "excited about the opportunities ahead and the value this partnership will create for the ecosystem."

Drools operates six production facilities in India. In addition to its domestic market and the UAE, the company says it supplies cat and dog food to customers based in more than 25 countries in Africa, Asia and Oceania. These include Australia, Bhutan, Ghana, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Laos, the Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Uzbekistan, among others, according to data released by the business.

MF Tecno tracks rising SKU complexity, premiumization

Italian company MF Tecno Packaging Systems, a producer that supplies packaging equipment to various industries including the pet food sector, is observing a number of trends that are transforming how industry players work with packaging technology businesses. These include increasing stock-keeping unit (SKU) complexity and the rapidly rising popularity of premium and personalized formats.

"What pet food producers ask of their technology partners has changed significantly in recent years," Maurizio Massini, sales director at MF Tecno Packaging Systems, told Petfood Industry. "They no longer look for individual machines, but for complete plants that cover the entire process, from production to packaging, designed and integrated by a single supplier."

The Italian manufacturer said that, together with MIAL, its sister company within the Massini Industries Group, MF Tecno Packaging Systems offers machinery for raw material storage, conveying and feeding on the upstream side, and weighing, bagging, vertical packaging, case packing, palletizing and wrapping on the downstream side.

"Our plan for 2026 is to keep intercepting the trends and innovations of a pet food market that continues to grow rapidly, so that we remain aligned with industrial requirements that evolve quickly, from new sustainable packaging materials to higher SKU complexity and the rise of premium and personalized formats," said Massini.

According to data from MF Tecno Packaging Systems, some of the pet food producers that have purchased equipment from the Italian manufacturer include Befood Pet Nutrition and Premium Pet Food.
