AMPV, HPAI wreak havoc on the US turkey industry in 2024

Avian metapneumovirus and avian influenza caused U.S. turkey production to decrease in 2024, affecting supply and prices, which ultimately hurt demand.

U.S. turkey companies produced 6.39 billion pounds of live turkey in 2024, according to estimates from WATT PoultryUSA’s Annual Top Turkey Company survey. This represents a 6.1% decrease from the 6.8 billion pounds produced in 2023, but a 0.79% increase from the 6.34 billion pounds produced in 2022.
