Innovafeed has announcedthat the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI) has validated the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data for its insect-based ingredients, including insect protein, oil and frass.
GFLI is an independent organization that maintains a reference database for the environmental footprint of animal feed ingredients. The validated data will be integrated into the GFLI database during its next update, scheduled for June 2026.
Innovafeed said its LCA data — designated as "Branded Data" under GFLI's framework — was confirmed to comply with GFLI's methodology, which is aligned with international standards from the FAO (LEAP) and the European Union (PEF). The Branded Data framework relies on primary data specific to manufacturers' products, allowing feed ingredient producers to document the environmental footprint of their solutions.
Innovafeed is among the first companies to complete the Branded Data evaluation, following a pilot phase launched in 2023. The validation process took approximately 18 months.
"This major milestone, eagerly awaited by all our customers, provides tangible proof of the impact of Innovafeed's model, a model designed to transform agri-food value chains and accelerate their transition toward more resilient and responsible systems," said Maye Walraven, chief business officer and chief impact officer.
Enzo Ballestra, chief of staff and impact manager, said the team is extremely proud to join this global database after nearly 18 months of a rigorous validation and review process. "Beyond our internal impact communications, this recognition gives our model global, harmonized legitimacy across the entire industry," he added.
Innovafeed specializes in the production of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) insects for animal and plant nutrition.
