Amid rising demand for its products in both domestic and international markets, Polish pet food supplier Zew Natury is investing in expanded manufacturing capabilities, according to a senior company representative.

Adrian Wasyluk, manager at Zew Natury, told Petfood Industry that the company has been producing superpremium dog and cat food for about seven years and is currently working to diversify its offerings.

“We produce a wide range of products, including cans, pouches and treats for various pets,” Wasyluk said. "The past years have brought a significant increase in our sales, and we are using these preferable conditions for growth to introduce new flavors and products."

The company is launching innovative additions to its lineup, including unconventional proteins and alternative diets. “We are diversifying our portfolio by releasing products with kangaroo meat, vegetarian pet food, and also products under our Fit range,” said Wasyluk.

Among the newest launches are novel cat food offerings. "For cats, we now offer food with mouse meat," he added. "With all of our products, our brand’s philosophy is to use 100% of fresh and natural ingredients, whether we’re talking about meat, vegetables or fruit."

Zew Natury operates a production facility in Redostowo, located in the country’s Western Pomerania region, near the German border. Germany remains one of its key export markets, but the company is looking to grow its international footprint.

"The German market is an important export destination for our company,” Wasyluk said. "In addition to this, we want to further expand Zew Natury’s foreign sales by entering new markets, including China and Ukraine."

Fueled by continued sales growth, the company is making new investments in its Redostowo facility to support increased capacity, which includes buying new machines for the plant.

"To accommodate them in Redostowo, we have a project underway to build a new hall with a surface of around 12,000 square meters,” or roughly 129,200 square feet, he said.

In addition to its own branded products, Zew Natury also supplies private label pet food to various clients.

Pet food spending grows in France

Meanwhile, French consumers are increasing their investment in pet care, with spending rising by around 3% to €6.6 billion (US$7.5 billion) in 2024, according to industry association Promojardin-Promanimal.

Data from the Paris-based group shows that average prices for dog and cat food rose by 2% last year — a notable slowdown compared to 2023, when prices surged by 20%.

Growth within the dog and cat food categories continued to drive the overall market, with sales up by 3% and 5%, respectively.“These two categories continue to pull the market upwards, confirming their status as the sector's powertrains,” the association said in a statement.

Promojardin-Promanimal’s secretary general, Hanan Abdesselem, noted that 2024 brought a more stable outlook for the French pet food sector.

"After several years of an exceptional expansion, the market is finding its equilibrium, supported by solid fundaments and a sustained demand,” Abdesselem said. "Our research confirms that the French are increasingly attached to their pets, and they are also showing a rising interest in the quality of products [for pets] and animal wellbeing."

According to the association’s data, 58% of French residents own at least one pet, and 31% own multiple pets. On average, French consumers spend about €92 per month on their animals.
