APPA's top holiday pet treats reflect broader trends

The American Pet Products Association curated innovative products across multiple categories, including pet food and treats.

The American Pet Products Association (APPA) launched its 2025 Pets Add Life Holiday Gift Guide featuring products across categories including holiday-themed gifts, pet tech, winter gear, enrichment products, food and treats, gifts for pet parents, health and wellness and cat products.

"Each year, the Pets Add Life Holiday Gift Guide allows us to spotlight the creativity and innovation happening across the pet industry," said APPA president & CEO Pete Scott. "This year's guide is packed with thoughtful, fun products to help celebrate the joy pets bring into our lives this holiday season."

Trends reflected in top picks

The guide reflects trends in pet ownership, including that 50% of dog owners purchase Christmas gifts for their pets, spending an average of $29.80 per gift, while 41% of cat owners purchase Christmas gifts, spending an average of $30.70 per gift.

According to AAPA, cat ownership grew significantly in 2024, with 49 million (37%) of U.S. households owning a cat, a 23% increase from 2023. Multi-cat households are on the rise, with households owning two cats and three or more cats increasing by 8% and 38% respectively from 2018, while single-cat households decreased 9% in the last six years.
