Montego Pet Nutrition and Petshop Science set a Guinness World Records title for the largest donation of pet food in a 24-hour period May 1–2 at the Bloem Show in Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa.
The two companies collected 67,200 kilograms (148,148 pounds) of pet food, surpassing the previous record of 36,750 kilograms (81,016 pounds) set in the U.S. in 2023. Guinness World Records officials verified each donation and independently witnessed the process before confirming the final total.
All donations will be distributed to eight registered animal welfare organizations in the Free State, with additional allocations to shelters in other provinces.
"This record gave us an opportunity to shine a light on the extraordinary dedication of the people who run our animal rescues. We are proud of what this partnership with Petshop Science achieved and equally committed to the long work that continues beyond it," said Johan van Jaarsveld, managing director at Montego Pet Nutrition.
"It shows what is possible when people rally behind a cause," said Trevor Paxton, general manager for Petshop Science. "A record is one thing, but what matters is where this food is going — and the difference it will make."
Montego Pet Nutrition is a family business established in 2000 in the Karoo region of South Africa. The company's products are sold in more than 35 countries across multiple continents.
