Smalls announced that nine recipes in its fresh, human-grade, gently cooked cat food line earned recognition from Clean Label Project following independent third-party testing of the finished products.

Eight recipes earned the Clean Label Project Purity Award for meeting the organization’s standards for low levels of environmental and industrial contaminants. A ninth recipe, Smooth Fish Recipe, earned Clean Label Project Certification. According to Smalls, the certification makes it one of three brands certified by the organization, along with Bixbi and Freshpet.

The Smalls recipes that earned the Purity Award are:

  • Smooth Bird Chicken Recipe
  • Ground Bird Chicken Recipe
  • Ground Other Bird Turkey Recipe
  • Smooth Other Bird Turkey Recipe
  • Smooth Pig Pork Recipe
  • Smooth Bird & Fish Dish Chicken & Salmon Recipe

Smalls, which makes food exclusively for cats, sells its products through direct-to-consumer and retail channels.

“Cat parents trust us with what they put in their cats’ bowls every day, and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously,” said Nate Kredich, COO of Smalls. “Having eight of our fresh recipes earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award is meaningful because it provides independent validation across such a broad portion of our portfolio. It also reinforces the importance of our high product standards as well as our commitment to giving cat parents greater transparency and confidence in the food they serve.”

Clean Label Project is a nonprofit organization focused on reducing environmental and industrial contaminants in food and consumer products. The organization sets certification standards and evaluates finished products as sold to consumers through independent testing at an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory. Testing covers contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate, phthalates and bisphenol.

“Having eight recipes earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award is a meaningful achievement and speaks to the consistency Smalls has demonstrated across its fresh food portfolio,” said Molly Hamilton, executive director of Clean Label Project. “When recognition extends across multiple recipes, proteins and textures, it gives consumers an additional level of confidence in a brand’s commitment to product purity beyond a single product. We’re pleased to recognize Smalls for its continued commitment to providing cat parents with greater transparency into the products they feed their pets.”

Smalls may display the Clean Label Project Certified and Purity Award seals on applicable products in accordance with Clean Label Project guidelines.
