The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) has named Heather Pfahl its chief executive officer and executive director. Pfahl will begin the role Nov. 2 and brings 20 years of leadership experience in business, environmental and social impact work.
Over the past 10 years, Pfahl led sustainability teams in procurement and sourcing functions at companies including Mars, Starbucks and Microsoft. At Mars, she worked with cross-functional enterprise teams to advance sustainable sourcing and other industry initiatives under the company’s Sustainable in a Generation plan. That work included supporting the Mars Petcare Sheba brand as part of the Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System. Pfahl also worked for large international nongovernmental organizations, where she built teams, delivered strategy and grew corporate partnerships.
“On behalf of the board, we are delighted to welcome Heather to PSC,” said Dustin Dover, board chair of PSC and chief operating officer of MFiber, a pet food ingredient producer. “Her experience across global business, including pet brands and her nonprofit leadership, is an exceptional fit for this moment in PSC’s growth. We are confident she will help PSC deepen member value and strengthen its role as a trusted convener for sustainability across the pet industry.”
Founded in 2013, PSC works with companies across the pet industry value chain on sustainability practices, goal setting and progress measurement. The organization offers benchmarking, accreditation, education and industry convening.
Pfahl will join PSC shortly before Impact Unleashed, the coalition’s annual conference, where she will meet members and industry partners.
“I’m honored to join PSC and work alongside its talented team, members and partners,” Pfahl said. “The pet industry has an important opportunity to make progress on complex sustainability challenges through collaboration. I look forward to listening, building on the coalition’s strong foundation and helping turn our shared goals into practical action for pets, people and the planet.”
