American Packaging Corporation (APC) has approved a significant expansion of its Story City, Iowa, U.S., Center of Excellence, adding pouching capacity and equipment to meet growing market demand. The Columbus, Wisconsin-based flexible packaging manufacturer plans to break ground in October 2025 and complete the project by September 2026.
The expansion comes as the North American flexible packaging market experiences substantial growth, with pouches projected to grow approximately 4.5% annually from 2024 to 2029, according to Modor Intelligence research. Consumer demand for convenient packaging solutions and pouches' combination of product protection, visual appeal and convenience features like resealable zippers are driving this growth.

The Story City facility specializes in flexographic printing for preformed pouches and bags. Kevin Neis, operations director, noted the facility's capabilities: "APC's Story City Center of Excellence offers award-winning flexographic printing for its preformed pouches and bags, creating vivid graphics with eye-catching shelf appeal that our customers value," he said. "We are excited to expand our pouching capacity and capability."
APC manufactures flexible packaging solutions including pouches, bags and other packaging technologies for various industries. The company operates multiple facilities focused on different packaging specialties.
