Two leading pet food companies in Argentina recently announced the expansion of their product array. Regardless of the pandemic and the high inflation the country is experiencing, local companies are increasing their stakes in the domestic and foreign markets, suggesting that the region continues its strong development. Argentina is the biggest pet food exporter in South America, with more than 120,000 metric tons exported in 2021.

Molino Chacabuco: Extending standard brand to premium

Molino Chacabuco, one of the 10 largest pet food manufacturers in the country, announced the expansion of its flagship brand Raza, adding snacks, treats and wet pet food for both dogs and cats. Raza is a brand with more than 25 years on the market and a nationwide presence. Recently, it has also appeared in other countries such as Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The new Raza products claim to be highly innovative, as they use recyclable packaging and the addition of prebiotics and probiotics, dehydrated vegetables, extra omega fats and proteins.

According to a company statement, the brand extension signifies its incursion into the indulgent pet food products segment. That means Raza is now competing in all stages and consumption occasions for pets.

As for product quality, Molinos Chacabuco complies with national and international standards and regulatory processes, such as HACCP and ISO 9000, along with ISO 14000, which oversees environmental management best practices.

Baires SA launches new premium pet food brand

Baires SA is another market leader in Argentina and likely the largest pet food exporter. The company has chosen to launch a new premium brand called Fawna: Patagonic Taste, a dry dog and cat food product resembling local flavors and recipes from the Argentinian Patagonia.

Among the prime features of Fawna are high protein content and low carbohydrate level that supports health and nutrition, as the mix helps reduce the probability of long-term ailments related to diabetes, pancreatitis, digestive and intestinal problems, according to the company.

The Fawna line also contains digestible essential amino acids derived from high-quality proteins such as salmon and chicken, as well as prebiotics and probiotics that help increase beneficial flora, aiding the growth of natural defenses, the immune system and efficient absorption of nutrients, Baires says.

With the Fawna launch, the company says it has developed premium packaging consisting of trilaminate packaging that ensures the correct preservation of the product. The packaging includes a one-way valve that allows air escape without letting any harmful external agents or moisture enter and a zipper closure for greater convenience and preservation. Fawna is available at veterinarians and pet shops throughout Argentina.
