Philippines' Aboitiz's pet food business to benefit after Diasham purchase

The January purchase of Singaporean firm Diasham Resources Pte. Ltd. by Philippine-based Aboitiz Foods is expected to boost the latter's pet food business on different levels.

A part of the Aboitiz Ventures, Inc., Aboitiz Foods, through its subsidiary Gold Coin Management Holdings Pte. Ltd., recently announced its total acquisition of Diasham, a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality animal nutrition and health solutions. This strategic acquisition will now allow Aboitiz to integrate high-quality feed additives and specialty nutrition into its portfolio.

With nearly five decades of expertise, Diasham is a well-respected provider of feed additives, water-soluble products, injectables, and liquid products throughout the Asia-Pacific. Buying Diasham significantly expands Aboitiz Foods' specialty nutrition offerings. While the acquisition primarily covers animal health, Diasham's expertise and technologies can very well be applied on pet food to and upgrade the formulation of Aboitiz's present pet food line (Maxime, Tommy, and Woofy) from standard to functional and scientific nutritions.

Diasham's non-antibiotic additives for balance gut bacteria and enzyme technology for nutrient absorption can boost the functional features of Aboitiz's pet food when it becomes reformulated for enhanced digestive health or sensitive stomach.

On top of that, Diasham's non-antibiotic health products immediately provide Aboitiz with a “clean label” solution for pet owners looking for a true organic and all-natural pet food.

The Diasham connection also opens Aboitiz to a big swath of the Asia Pacific market, from veterinary clinics and hospitals, distributors and suppliers. Most importantly, the equity purchase can help Aboitiz lower its manufacturing costs as many processes can now be done internally. In the end, they could pass some savings to consumers with lower-priced pet food and supplements.

“This acquisition gives us a more complete range of products and solutions to offer our customers across the region,” said Tristan Aboitiz, president and CEO of Aboitiz Foods.

This acquisition builds on Aboitiz Foods’ successful expansion in Asia, following its initial international investment in Vietnam over a decade ago.
